In New Jersey, chess is more than a game—it’s a vehicle for change. At the center of this movement is Vince Alize, President of the New Jersey Chess Club and a Certified Tournament Director, whose work transcends the board to empower underserved youth. From revitalizing local clubs to spearheading a landmark initiative with North Jersey Pro Soccer, Vince is redefining what chess can achieve in communities like Paterson.
The Architect of Community Chess
Vince’s leadership at the New Jersey Chess Club (39 Maple Ave, Morristown) has made it a beacon for players of all levels, offering:
USCF-rated tournaments that draw competitors statewide.
Youth mentorship programs to nurture strategic thinking and discipline.
Grassroots revival projects, like the Hackettstown Chess Club, which he helped restart with Veteran Ken Thomas.
But his most ambitious project yet is unfolding at Hinchliffe Stadium—a historic venue in Paterson now poised to become a hub for chess and community growth.

"Creating a Community Club": Chess Meets Opportunity
In a groundbreaking collaboration with Erik Stover, CEO of North Jersey Pro Soccer (affiliated with the United States Soccer League), Vince is co-leading the "Creating a Community Club" initiative for Chess. This visionary program integrates chess into a broader ecosystem of sports, arts, and culture, all under one roof for the residents of Paterson’s’ Surrounding area.
The Vision
A Multidisciplinary Hub: The club will offer soccer, cricket, track and field, music, art, and—thanks to Vince—a thriving chess division.
Chess as a Catalyst: Vince’s role is to design a chess program that fosters strategic thinking, cultural connection, and competitive opportunities for Paterson’s youth.
Equity in Action: By anchoring the program at Hinchliffe Stadium, the initiative targets neighborhoods where extracurricular activities are often out of reach.
“Our goal is to create a space where kids can explore their passions, whether it’s sports, art, or chess. Vince’s expertise ensures chess isn’t just an add-on—it’s a cornerstone of our community vision.”
Why This Matters
For Vince, the Hinchliffe Stadium project is personal. Like his mentor, Kenneth S. Thomas, he believes chess can transform lives. In Paterson, where resources are scarce, the program will:
Providing access to chess coaching and tournaments.
Bridge gaps between chess and other disciplines, showing youth how strategy applies on and off the board.
Build a legacy of inclusivity, mirroring Vince’s work across New Jersey.
