Calling all chess enthusiasts—young and seasoned alike! The New Jersey Chess Club is thrilled to announce our inaugural Morristown Open and Scholastic Tournament, a USCF-rated event designed to challenge, inspire, and celebrate the chess community. Whether you're a budding prodigy or a seasoned player, this is your chance to compete, learn, and take home some serious bragging rights (and trophies!).

🔹 Scholastic Sections (Grades K-12)

Format: 5 Rounds (Swiss) | Team Event!
Sections: K-3, K-5, K-8, K-12
Time Control: G30;d5

🏆 Prizes:

  • Trophies for 1st and 2nd Place in each section

  • Medals for 3rd Place

  • Team Glory! The top team in each section wins a 1st Place Team Trophy (teams of 3-5 players; top 3 scores count).

📝 Registration & Schedule:

  • Early Registration (Online): $42 (ends 3 days before the event)

  • On-site (Late): $50

  • Team Sign-up: Just $5 per team—pick a creative name and bring your A-game!

⏰ Event Day Timeline:

  • 10:00 AM: Registration & Check-in (Teams must sign up here!)

  • 10:15 AM: Pairings & Announcements

  • 10:30 AM: Round 1 kicks off!

  • Lunch Break: 12:30 PM

  • Awards Ceremony: 4:00 PM | Event Ends: ~4:30 PM

Sections: OPEN, U1600
Time Control: G50;d5

💰 Prize Fund: $1000 (Based on 30 Entries, $500 Guaranteed!)

  • Open Section: $250-$150-$100 | U2000 Prize: $75 | U1800 Prize: $50

  • U1600 Section: $100-$75 | U1300 Prize: $50 | U1000 Prize: $50

  • 🏆 Trophies for Champions:

    • 1st Morristown Open Champion

    • 1st Morristown U1600 Champion

🎟️ Free Entry for Title Holders: NM, WFM, FM, WIM, WGM, IM, GM (Entry fee deducted from prizes).
