Every July 20, the world unites to celebrate International Chess Day, honoring the game that’s been outsmarting opponents since the 6th century (yeah, chess is older than your grandma’s secret cookie recipe). From ancient battlefields to modern-day grandmaster showdowns, chess has survived empires, inspired revolutions, and even broken the internet (thanks, Queen’s Gambit!).

This year, New Jersey Chess Club is throwing down the gauntlet with our MORRISTOWN QUADS TOURNAMENT—a USCF-rated chess brawl where brains, not brawn, win the day.

⚔️ MORRISTOWN QUADS: YOUR CHESS GLADIATOR ARENA

📅 WHEN: July 20, 2025 (aka International Chess Day—no excuses!)
📍 WHERE: 39 Maple Ave, Morristown, NJ (aka the place where pawns become kings)
💰 PRIZES: Cold hard cash ($60 per quad winner!) + eternal bragging rights

🚨 TOURNAMENT DEETS:

• FORMAT: Quads (groups of 4 players of similar skill—no hiding from your rivals!)

  • Over 1000 rating? G/45;d5 (translation: 45-minute slugfest).

  • Under 1000? G/30;d5 (30-minute adrenaline rush).

• REGISTRATION:

  • $32 if you’re smart and sign up early.

  • $40 if you live life on the edge (onsite registration).

• SCHEDULE:

  • 1:00 PM: Check-in (don’t be late—zero tolerance for stragglers!).

  • 1:15 PM: Let the mental warfare begin!

  • 5:00 PM-ish: Victorious? Collect your loot. Defeated? Vow revenge next year.

• Your A-game (obviously).

• A chess set & clock (or rent ours for $5—because we’ve got your back).
